The Web site
www.AMomentThatLivesOn.com was brought to fruition
after years of careful consideration and personal
experience. My objective was twofold: first, to create
an online voice and resource for death planning, and
second,
to create a refuge and resource for people who had lost
a beloved pet.
I divided the site into two sub-sections that focused on
each objective. I named the pet loss section “Furry
Farewell” and the death planning section “My Goodbye.”
FURRY FAREWELL
I developed Furry
Farewell after losing two of my furry 14-year old family
members (a chow mix named Kahlua and a pure-bred Samoyed named Kodiak) on the same
day in July, 2007.
This experience was one of the toughest yet; the pain,
loss, and guilt that followed was different
than anything I experienced before. During that next
year, over a dozen of my friends and family
members lost a furry family member as well. I realized
how important God’s creatures were to people and decided to
develop a site for those seeking comfort, memorial
products, and other services that would help
them deal with their loss and perhaps find comfort in
another furry friend.

MY GOODBYE
Given
that death is such a touchy — almost taboo — subject, I
knew I had to approach this section with sensitivity,
yet conviction. My personal experiences with
death—especially recent experiences—was the “push” I
needed to really believe in and promote the benefits of
death planning.
The reality was that I had been to more funerals in my
37 years than most people I knew (one of my friends can
count the number of funerals she’s been to on only one
hand). Those who have made their final curtain call have
gone in many different ways… diseases, car accidents,
murder, suicide, and the list goes on...
As I’ve opened my arms and my ears to grieving widows,
families, and friends over the years, I can’t help but
remember some of the words I heard... “My mother didn’t
have a grave plot, so I assumed she wanted to be
cremated.”
“I don’t even know if Todd had a will.” Often, it seemed as though the stress
of putting their loved ones
to rest was getting in the
way of the natural grieving process. After all, there
was no time to deal
with the shock and loss; decisions
had to be made quickly.
To me, it just seemed wrong that death was such a “grey
area.” Especially given that it was life’s
most
predictable event. So, I decided to build a site that
would help people understand the
benefits of death planning,
not just for their loved ones, but for themselves. The
site provides a
number of
FREE planning documents, which
took me many hours of research and preparation.
They are
offered for free so that there aren’t any barriers to a
person being proactive in their death planning.
The goal
is that someday, someone will have a little less
heartache and headache to deal with after a loved one
dies because these documents were filled out by a
compassionate individual.
