FINDING COMFORT IN
 ANOTHER FURRY FRIEND

A number of years ago, while at my dogs' routine check-up, I asked my veterinarian, "Why don't dogs live as long as humans?"  He was quick to answer, saying "So we can have many dogs in our lifetime."  At that point in time, that was not the answer I wanted to hear.  I wanted my two dogs to be with me forever, and the thought of them not being in my life hurt badly.

I ended up putting them both down on the same day four years after that visit.  I was so depressed and longed for a furry companion so badly, but had a hard time dealing with the guilt of getting another pet.  I also didn't know if I was ready.

Christmas came six months later and the best gift I received was a rescued Samoyed named "Bear."  I fell in love with him instantly.  I realized that he would never replace my departed pets, but I got so much joy from him and having another dog to love and give a loving home to.
I finally knew what my vet was talking about...
